WHAT WE DO


Mental illness can turn even the most simple everyday tasks into huge challenges.


LINC helps people who have experienced mental illness and addictions to live with their symptoms, while achieving their goals, so they can live a fulfilled and healthy life.

We help our clients to achieve independence and reintegrate back into the community, by providing support and education in their own, safe living environments.

Whether home owners or in living rented accommodation, our clients are given choices about where they live and with whom.

WELLNESS RECOVERY COACHES

WELLNESS RECOVERY COACHES

All clients are assigned a Wellness Recovery Coach, who works closely with them to develop an individually-tailored recovery plan.

The client’s needs are identified during a goal planning process, which helps pinpoint their aims, factoring in spiritual, mental, social and physical needs.

To foster independence, clients own and are in charge of their own recovery plan, with the support and facilitation of their coach.

The level of support provided can vary from as little as one hour a week to more than 10 hours, depending on the individual’s needs.

Goal-focussed, the plan promotes self-sufficiency and, where necessary, incorporates essential life skills training, including:

  • Grocery shopping

  • Menu planning

  • Cooking

  • Rostered housework

  • Laundry

  • Managing a budget

  • Sports and exercise

  • Maintaining personal hygiene

  • Dealing with stress

  • Managing medications

  • Finding paid or voluntary work

LINC staff also work with other health professionals and support agencies to ensure that clients get the counselling and treatment they need to avoid major mental health or addiction relapses.

Clients have free access to their wellness recovery coach at all times via an 0800 number, however LINC does not provide a crisis service.

LINKS WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY

LINC has strong working relationships with other community organisations and government agencies, and acts as a service broker to the wider community.

For instance, if a client doesn’t have a home, we can work with other agencies to help him or her to find suitable accommodation.

We also encourage clients to find work, either paid or voluntary, as we see this as critical to the recovery process. If clients are unable to find paid work, we have close ties with volunteer organisations, such as SPCA Tauranga, the Salvation Army and Red Cross.

We support and encourage clients to access community services so that specialist support will still be available to them after they leave our service.

CLIENT RIGHTS

Successful relationships are based on mutual respect. We believe in treating all our clients with respect and are careful to ensure that in administering support we continue to uphold their rights by complying with government legislation and best practice guidelines.

Upon entering the service, clients are informed of their rights and presented with a written summary.

We offer the support of an advocate at all clinical appointments – this could be a staff, family or whanau member.

Clients are free to request further information and/or withdraw consent at any time while receiving support from LINC.
